- -music for the masses- -
most schools do not offer lessons in electronic music (yet)
so John began his career making crunch loops at home in
Cakewalk Music Creator in high school. these first dissonant
little songs led to larger things like conservatory training and
improvised noise-rock bands. while he has played in a few
bands music making has primarily become a solo activity.
John works in rock, electronic, dance, folk, noise, ambient,
and other styles. for John writing music is less of a passion
and more of an obsession.
- philosophy -
catchy lines and engaging rhythms are the building blocks for
a good song, but it is the clever twists, tricks, and motions
that bring about greatness. this is a marriage of the micro and
macro. a song has accomplished it's goal if the response of the
listener is to dance, smile, laugh, cry, or merely relate,
regardless of the intentions of it's creator, for a listener will
respond according to their own intentions and experience just as
the writer draws from his experience and knowledge. seeking
these different responses will not only teach the songwriter
volumes about music, but about the wider world and the self.
